Shyam was a general partner with the Yaletown team from 2017 to 2025, leading and supporting many portfolio additions to the Innovation Growth Funds I and II. He is a successful entrepreneur with more than 40 years of experience in research, operation management, and business development in the high-tech industry.

Prior to joining Yaletown, Shyam was co-founder and CEO of SDP Telecom Inc., a global telecom business, which he led to its acquisition by Molex LLC, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, in 2015. Shyam is also co-founder of Somel Investments, a multi-asset private investment firm, where he spends a great deal of time investing in and supporting the early-stage deep tech ecosystem, particularly in Quebec, where he is based.

Shyam has received numerous awards for his entrepreneurial success, including the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, the Technology Fast 500 in North America for two consecutive years, and notably the Quebec Ernst & Young 2009 Entrepreneur of The Year Award. He has a PhD in engineering, is the author of many technical papers, and holds a number of patents.
